How Much Does a Luxury Safari in Kenya Cost? 2026/2027 Guide

Luxury Safari Kenya Cost: 2027 Prices, Lodges and Park Fees

How Much Does a Luxury Safari in Kenya Cost?

Written by the Wild Sights Safaris team. Last updated: October 2026.

A luxury safari in Kenya costs about USD 800 to 2,500 per person per night, all-inclusive, based on two people sharing. A 7-day luxury safari therefore costs roughly USD 6,000 to 17,500 per person, plus international flights. The exact luxury safari Kenya cost depends on four things: the camps you choose, the season, internal flights and whether you want a private vehicle and guide.

This guide breaks down every cost, from lodge rates to Masai Mara fees and tipping. It also includes a sample 7-day budget, so you can see exactly where your money goes.

What Is Included in a Luxury Safari Price?

Most luxury camps in Kenya quote an all-inclusive or “fully inclusive” rate. That means the nightly price usually covers far more than your room.

Usually included:

  • Accommodation in a tented suite, cottage or villa
  • All meals, often with private bush breakfasts and sundowners
  • Most drinks, including house wines, beers and spirits
  • Twice-daily game drives with a professional guide
  • Conservancy fees, plus walks and night drives in conservancies
  • Laundry and Wi-Fi in main areas

Usually extra:

  • International flights to Nairobi
  • National park and reserve fees, such as the Masai Mara entry fee
  • Internal flights, unless your safari planner packages them
  • Premium wines, champagne and spa treatments
  • Hot-air balloon safaris over the Mara
  • Tips for guides and camp staff
  • Kenya eTA, at about USD50 for most visitors

Luxury Safari Activities in Kenya and What They Cost

Luxury Safari Activities in Kenya and What They Cost

A luxury safari in Kenya is about much more than game drives. In private conservancies especially, your days can include walking, riding, flying and quiet time with local communities. Many of these activities are included in your nightly rate, while a few special experiences cost extra.

Activity Where Included or extra?
Private game drives All regions Shared drives included; a private vehicle is often extra
Night drives Private conservancies Usually included at conservancy camps
Guided bush walks Conservancies, Laikipia, Samburu Usually included
Bush breakfasts and sundowners Most luxury camps Usually included
Cultural visits to Maasai or Samburu villages Masai Mara, Samburu, Laikipia Often included or a small community fee

Activities usually included

Game drives run twice a day, at dawn and late afternoon, when wildlife is most active. In conservancies, guides can drive off-road for key sightings, such as a cheetah hunt or a lion pride with cubs.

Night drives reveal a different cast of animals, such as aardvarks, genets, bushbabies and hunting leopards. Guided bush walks let you read tracks, learn about plants and feel the bush around you, always with an armed ranger or experienced walking guide.

Bush meals are a highlight of luxury camps. You might enjoy breakfast under an acacia tree after an early drive, or watch the sun set over the plains with a drink in hand.

Activities that usually cost extra

A hot-air balloon safari over the Masai Mara is a bucket-list experience. You lift off at dawn, float silently over the plains for about an hour, then land for a champagne breakfast in the bush.

Horseback safaris let you ride among zebra, giraffe and eland, mostly for intermediate riders. Read more in our guide to horse riding safaris in Kenya.

Helicopter flights reach places few people ever see, such as Lake Turkana, remote waterfalls and the volcanic landscapes of the north. They are expensive, but for many guests they are the most memorable day of the trip.

Activities with purpose

Many luxury guests also want their trip to give something back. Depending on where you stay, you can visit community schools and clinics, learn about anti-poaching work or meet researchers tracking lions and elephants. These experiences add meaning to your safari, and your camp fees help fund them.

When we plan your safari, we tell you exactly which activities are included and which cost extra, so nothing on your bill comes as a surprise.

Luxury Safari Costs by Tier

There is no single “luxury” price in Kenya. Instead, camps fall into three broad tiers.

Tier Per person per night 7 days per person What you get
Entry luxury USD 800 to 1,200 USD 5,000 to 8,000 Upscale tented camps, some shared vehicles, some road transfers
Classic luxury USD 1,200 to 1,800 USD 8,000 to 12,500 Small conservancy camps, private vehicle, fly-in transfers
Ultra luxury USD 1,800 to 2,500+ USD 12,500 to 17,500+ Flagship camps, exclusive-use villas, private guide, helicopter options

All prices are indicative for 2027, based on two people sharing in high season. Rates vary between properties, so we confirm live prices when we build your itinerary.

The Biggest Costs Explained

1. Lodges and camps

Accommodation is the largest part of your budget, usually 60 to 75 percent of the total. Small camps in private conservancies cost more than larger lodges inside the national reserve. However, they include extras such as night drives, walking safaris and capped vehicle numbers.

For our pick of the best properties, see Luxury Accommodation in Kenya.

2. Masai Mara and park fees

The Masai Mara National Reserve is managed by Narok County, not the Kenya Wildlife Service. In 2026, non-resident adults pay USD 100 per day from January to June and USD 200 per day from July to December. Children aged 9 to 17 pay USD 50, and children 8 and under enter free.

If you stay in a private conservancy, conservancy fees are usually included in your camp rate. As a result, you only pay the reserve fee on days you drive into the main reserve.

Kenya Wildlife Service parks, such as Amboseli and Nairobi National Park, charge separate daily fees. KWS introduced a new fee schedule in October 2025, but it was challenged in court soon afterwards, so we always confirm the current rate when we quote.

3. Internal flights

Light aircraft link Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Masai Mara, Laikipia, Samburu, Amboseli and the coast. Flights save five to six hours of driving each way. Expect to pay several hundred US dollars per person for each flight leg, with strict soft-bag luggage limits of around 15 kg.

4. Private vehicle and guide

Many luxury camps share vehicles between guests. A private vehicle for your group costs extra per day, but it lets you set your own pace and stay with sightings as long as you like. For photographers, families and honeymooners, it is often the best upgrade you can buy.

5. Tips

Tipping is customary in Kenya. As a rough guide, budget around USD 20 to 30 per guest per day for your guide and a similar amount for the general camp staff tip box. Your camp will give you its own guidelines on arrival.

Sample 7-Day Luxury Safari Budget

Here is a sample classic luxury itinerary for one person sharing, in high season (July to October). All figures are approximate.

Item Details Cost per person (USD)
Nairobi 1 night at a boutique hotel in Karen 400
Laikipia 2 nights at a luxury conservancy camp (about USD 1,300 a night) 2,600
Masai Mara conservancy 3 nights at a luxury tented camp (about USD 1,500 a night) 4,500
Internal flights Wilson to Laikipia, Laikipia to Mara, Mara to Wilson 900
Masai Mara reserve fee 1 day in the main reserve 200
Tips Guides and camp staff 350
Total 7 days, excluding international flights 8,950

Add-ons such as a hot-air balloon flight, a private vehicle or a beach extension would increase this total. By contrast, travelling in April to June or November could cut accommodation costs significantly.

Luxury Safari Cost by Season

Season Months What to expect Price level
Peak July to October Great Migration in the Masai Mara; book 9 to 12 months ahead Highest
Festive Late December to early January Popular with families; camps fill early Highest
High January to March Dry, excellent game viewing, newborn animals High
Green season April to June Long rains; some camps close; lush and quiet Lowest
Shoulder November to mid-December Short rains, fewer visitors, good birding Mid

Also note that Masai Mara reserve fees double from July to December. That adds up quickly on a long Mara stay.

How to Get More Value From a Luxury Safari in Kenya

You don’t have to cut comfort to save money. Instead, spend it where it matters most.

  1. Travel in the shoulder or green season. Many camps offer lower rates or “stay four, pay three” deals in April to June and November.
  2. Choose a conservancy camp. Conservancy fees, night drives and walks are often included, so you get more for your nightly rate.
  3. Combine regions wisely. Two or three areas linked by flights are better than four or five rushed stops.
  4. Mix tiers. Splurge on your Mara camp and choose a slightly lower tier elsewhere.
  5. Book early. The best-value rooms at top camps sell out first, especially for July to October.
  6. Ask about single supplements. Some camps waive them in low season, which helps solo travellers.
